Workers First Caravan – Postponed

***Please note that the organizing groups have decided to postpone this protest. We will post here and on social media when a new date has been set. Thank you to all who continue to advocate for worker rights. ***

On Wednesday, June 3, working people from Raleigh will join thousands of people from across the country in a Workers First Caravan, an all-out action of national solidarity calling for implementation of America’s Five Economic Essentials and passage of the HEROES Act.

Help us tell Thom Tillis that inaction is unacceptable. We’re ready to fight for our health, our economy and our country.

Dear Friends,

Our Raleigh Impeach and Remove event is set for Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 in Bicentennial Plaza. The impeachment vote is scheduled for Wednesday, 12/18, but even if that schedule changes, we will still protest on Tuesday evening.

We are very excited to have some fantastic speakers, musicians and over 1500 attendees! We will start with a rally at 5:30, have a march (under 1 mile) around the Capitol Building or a vigil in the plaza and then a closing rally back in Bicentennial Plaza.

Please keep inviting people to this event. You can use this link to spread the word by email and social media.  Send it far and wide so people can find the event closest to them. On social media before and after the event, use the hashtag #NotAboveTheLaw. If you take pictures during the event, please send them to photos@moveon.org

The sun will be setting as we gather, so bring a flashlight if you have one. Signs and costumes are welcome. If you can’t get there at 5:30, no worries, we will be there until 7:30 at least.

Above all, we want to have a peaceful protest, one in which children and physically fragile people can be safe and we all feel comfortable. If there are counter protesters, don’t engage them. We also want to be respectful to the police. If we all are vigilant keeping each other safe and being welcoming and friendly, we will have a great rally.

Thank you for your support of democracy, the rule of law and our constitution at this crucial time in our country’s history. You are making public support for impeachment visible.

Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns. You can also post questions on our facebook event. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Karen, Mike, and Marci

[Raleigh, NC] — At 5:30 PM local time, on December 17th, the night before the U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach Donald Trump for his high crimes and misdemeanors, activists will gather at Bicentennial Plaza as part of the nationwide “Nobody Is Above the Law” rallies. The rally and march in Raleigh will be one of about four hundred actions occurring nationwide.  Well over 1,000 people are expected.

The mobilization is part of a massive, grassroots effort to ensure Congress holds Donald Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections. Protesters will demand that the House of Representatives fulfills its constitutional duty by impeaching Donald Trump and that the Senate remove him from office for attempting to rig the 2020 elections. Congress must show that no one—including the criminal in the White House—is above the law.

Protesters will gather at Bicentennial Plaza at 5:30pm for a rally, then a short march around the Capitol Building for those who are able (vigil for those who are not), then another rally at about 7:00pm.  There will be creative signs, costumes, songs, and chants.

“The impeachment inquiry has clearly shown that the president of the United States has used the power of his office to pressure a weaker foreign government to help him personally in the 2020 election. This abuse of power cannot go unchecked! Our Senators must do their job of defending the constitution,” said Karen Ziegler, lead organizer for the Tuesdays With Tillis group that has been rallying around Senator Thom Tillis’ Raleigh office for over 150 weeks.

Activists will use #NotAboveTheLaw to engage communities on social media. Information about other events can be found at Impeach.org. The link to the event in Raleigh is here.
